Deep in the hidden recesses of the church basement, safe from the cruelest twister, unseen by the eyes of passersby–beneath the surface a transformation is taking place. Roots: gnarly, twisted, and coarse are digging in, searching for more.
“Blessed are those who trust in the Lord, whose trust is in the Lord.
They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out roots by the stream.
It shall not fear when heat comes, and its leaves shall stay green;
in the year of drought it is not anxious,
and it does not cease to bear fruit.”
- Roots convert muck and mud to beauty.
- Roots take in the waste and forgotten debris of brokenness and turn it to strength.
- Roots push aside boulders and split rocks to pieces.
- Roots keep a tree upright in a flood.
Most people look at the leaves and think pleasant thoughts, but if you want to be where the real action is–you need to go
UNDERGROUND.
