The “Seven Last Words of Christ,” a Good Friday Ecumenical Service held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, will begin at 11:45 AM with an Organ prelude. At 12:00 PM, the Procession of Cross will take place followed by worship in seven 20-minute segments with organ interludes for arriving and departing.
This 3-hour service is led by community religious leaders and area musicians per Word. GracePoint’s Director of Ministries, Jeffrey Durham, will deliver the first of the seven messages.
Tower Chime tolls 33 times to conclude service. Free-will offering supports community needs. In-person and live streamed (stlukesdbq.org/goodfriday)
Lent, a 40-day period of prayer, penance, and fasting, ends on Resurrection Sunday when the sun comes up.
The location of our sunrise service is significant. We are in a glass-enclosed area that looks East out over the Mississippi River. The setting reinforces the theme of renewal and rebirth as the sun appears over the bluff.
The quietness of the early morning creates an atmosphere of peace and reflection that allows us to connect with our faith in a profound way. There is a powerful sense of community and shared experience among the congregation members of several churches.
The worship service provides an opportunity to reflect on His life, death, and resurrection; to remember the love He showed for us all; and to renew our commitment to living lives filled with compassion and grace. All these factors contribute to making Resurrection Sunrise a truly special occasion that touches hearts and souls.
Please set your alarm, go to bed early Saturday night, and join the early morning celebration of Christ’s resurrection.
What better way to ponder new beginnings and hope for the future?
